CRAFT FUSION based in Holsworthy, on the borders of Devon and Cornwall, is run by Gregg Anston-Race. Born in 1982, Gregg is a highly skilled artist working in contemporary, hand made, kiln fused glass. Through his use of light, texture and reflection, many of Gregg’s designs echo his surroundings and inspirations: the changing moods of the Atlantic Ocean on the North Cornish coast and the local wild and rugged landscape. For Gregg, “working with glass is not just a job, it’s a passion”.
A member of the Guild of Master Craftsmen, Gregg produces a range of pieces including panels, mirrors, tiles, bowls, coasters and jewellery.
Gregg’s chosen method of working is glass fusion, an ancient technique which uses the kiln to form and join pieces of glass. Glass fusion employs very different methods from traditional glass blowing techniques. Many pieces of glass are heated together in the kiln where they become molten and malleable. Thus the glass can be manipulated and, through a series of firings, transformed into a solid, inspiring piece of art. This method allows different glass to be combined in a fluid way, reflecting Gregg’s passion for his natural, organic surroundings.
